I had to take multiple screen shots. Seven to be exact.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

There are 90 BMW models on sale in North America as of today. Compare that to the 29 that were on sale in 2004.

Can anyone say the word "excess"? The problem is, people desire and want all of these.

Is counting the awd models and engines really necessary. You don't see Ford separating every model based on engine and awd. Bmw annual statements only show by convertible, coupe, etc.

That's just how they show it on their website. Ford only shows Fusion/Focus/Fiesta until you go into the configurator. BMW shows them all like they're their own model.

They only sold 5000 X6's last year. That can't be worth it. All these models and still no modern Z4M coupe. I guarantee they could sell more than 5000 of those.

They'll build one now that you said that. Look out for some spyshots in the coming months.

That's just how they market them. In reality, yeah they're in a lot of segments but showing it like this is a little exaggerating.

When you look at it this way it doesn't seem so bad.

ex. 2013 annual statement.

Even compared to Chevrolet it's ridiculous. Hell, you could add Cadillac to Chevrolet and still just get barely over the amount of model BMW makes.

Not counting trucks sold by Chevy, they have exactly the same # of models as BMW counted in the way I've shown..

Correction- Sorry Chevy still shows some 2014 models in their line up, still even without their trucks and vans they have 20 models.

I dunno where you're getting your numbers, because Chevy makes 19 models as of right now counting the trucks. Not counting the not-yet-produced Trax, Colorado, and City Express. The way you showed it, BMW makes 23

Sorry I was putting all the Camaros under Coupes and Convertibles like you did the 3 and 4 series. They're just bigger engines.

Very true. Now imagine if Chevy listed every model engine and awd separately. Jesus.

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > GeorgeyBoy
06/17/2014 at 00:02

Kinja'd!!!0

See, but they don't. BMW does. That's why I'm saying they make 90 models.

Kinja'd!!! GeorgeyBoy > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
06/17/2014 at 00:08

Kinja'd!!!0

They market 90 models. Maybe you should criticize their marketing strategy. BMW is a global brand that needs to compete in every market they can. In reality they are not far off from comparable brands at all and stuff like this is misleading.

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > GeorgeyBoy
06/17/2014 at 00:14

Kinja'd!!!0

80* Models, counting all body styles, engines, and drive wheels, are made by Chevrolet. I'm not going to count trim levels because BMW doesn't have those. This includes the truck category that BMW doesn't even compete in!

So, BMW's number is still absolutely ridiculous. Sorry, this isn't misleading at all.

Kinja'd!!! GeorgeyBoy > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
06/17/2014 at 00:23

Kinja'd!!!0

So what you're saying is a globalized brand offers more engine and drivetrain options compared to just Chevrolet here in the US. Chevy is a poor comparison. I don't think what BMW offers is ridiculous. I think they make a boatload of money by offering something in almost every segment not just one size fits all. Why should BMW be smaller?

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > GeorgeyBoy
06/17/2014 at 00:27

Kinja'd!!!0

No they don't really, they offer the same 2.0T or 3.0T and some some models the 4.4T. They just have so many tiny niche models that make no sense and have little-to-no market. Their main big sellers are the same models they've been making for years and years, those little niche models makes up very little of their annual number of sales.

Kinja'd!!! GeorgeyBoy > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
06/17/2014 at 00:36

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah but they're still sales. I'm sure if it really didn't make sense they wouldn't do it. You can only sell so many of your main models, BMW essentially created new market segments. Sometimes those models that make up very little of annual sales are the best, cough cts-v wagon.

There are two excuses to the BMW's niche shitstorm.

M6 GC

Kinja'd!!!

And the eventual M4 GC.

I blame the X6 for all this bullshit.

Kinja'd!!! theloudmouth > GeorgeyBoy

Kinja'd!!!0

1. BMW should NOT try and copy Chevroley.

2. It's not just the pure number of similar models but the number of models with an obscene overlap and in place of those enthusiasts would prefer far more (a 2-series sized sedan? Nope. A Z4M Roadster or Coupe? Nope.

It's fine as long as you have a brand with some performance and the rest are known to be everydays cars, problem is that Chevrolet doesn't advertise itself or hasn't built itself off of the driving enthusiast. I can tell you one thing, that accrued reputation will only go so far. Just like GM's own in the 60's and how Toyota and Honda are falling on their face now for what they did for over two decades spanning all of the 80's and 90's

I realize when I was referenced to a prior post it had hidden a key post someone else had made that you were responding to, my bad man. I thought you were implying they were like Chevrolet (hence Trolling). I should've read the whole string before passing out yesterday.

I hope I wasn't going off as a troll. I was just trying to make a point that the way BMW markets their vehicles makes it seem like a ridiculous amount of models. I'm not hiding the fact that they're in a lot of markets, but is it really that big of deal.
